Florida Man Accused of Shooting Uber Eats Driver in Buttocks

An Uber Eats driver was injured in a shooting at a Miami apartment complex after a man accused him of trying to get his girlfriend’s phone number.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the driver delivered food to the Pearl Dadeland Apartments earlier that morning. He spoke briefly with a woman who met him outside the main lobby and later returned to the complex hoping to see her again and ask for her number.

The driver was walking back to his vehicle when a man arrived in a gray Corvette. The man allegedly pointed a gun at him and ordered him to lie on the ground. After the driver was on the ground, the man reportedly fired a shot that grazed the alleged victim’s right buttock.

The man then reportedly struck the driver in the back of the head with the gun, leaving an open wound about two inches long. He allegedly ordered the driver to stand up, pointed the weapon at his head, and threatened to kill him while his girlfriend begged him to stop.

The driver ran, but the man allegedly chased him around the Corvette while continuing to point the gun at him. The woman tried to restrain her boyfriend, and the driver eventually escaped and drove himself to South Miami Hospital for medical treatment.

A witness reported what they saw to a deputy who responded to the apartment complex. They said a man had pointed a gun at another person before leaving in a two-door sports car.

Investigators traced the Florida license plate to a 2021 Corvette registered to the suspect, and the alleged victim identified the suspect in a photo lineup.

Deputies arrested the man at his home without incident and took him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for booking.

Court records show he faces charges of felony attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was being held without bond as of Tuesday evening.
