An Indiana man is accused of pointing a gun at a restaurant cook and firing a shot during an argument about the cook and the man’s wife. The 28-year-old is also accused of leading police on a chase that ended when his SUV hit a brick house.
The incident happened at an IHOP in Muncie on October 8. Police responded to a report involving a man who entered the restaurant with a gun and fired it. The caller said the man accused a cook of having sex with his wife.
An employee told investigators that the man appeared extremely intoxicated. They reported that he pushed the cook and pointed a handgun at him, and when they tried to intervene and take the gun it fired. The man then reportedly left in an SUV.
Police later located the vehicle and tried to stop it. The driver allegedly sped away, reaching speeds above 110 mph while weaving through traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road. The SUV reportedly went airborne and nearly hit oncoming vehicles. The chase ended when the SUV crashed into a two-story brick house. Officers said the driver looked disoriented when he got out of the vehicle. They used a Taser after he allegedly refused to follow commands.
The man is facing six preliminary felony charges, including shooting a firearm into an inhabited building, intimidation with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a handgun, pointing a firearm, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He also faces misdemeanor charges of resisting police and driving with a suspended license.
Court records show he was convicted in 2021 of carrying a handgun without a license, which barred him from carrying a firearm. He is being held at the Delaware County Jail without bond.
