A man was arrested after an incident on a Florida beach where he allegedly chased people with a drill and made threats.
The situation reportedly began when the 50-year-old entered a private beach area behind a condominium complex and asked to use a beach chair. Witnesses told the authorities he was turned away because he was not a resident. He allegedly became upset and grabbed a nearby umbrella, swinging it at someone.
Shortly after, the man allegedly picked up a drill that had a long sand-digging attachment and ran toward a person while yelling that he was going to kill him. One individual reportedly ran away, and witnesses said the man continued moving down the beach while holding the drill. Several people observed him running and described the tool as several feet long.
The authorities were called to the scene for reports of a man threatening people with a drill. When officers arrived, they reportedly found him sitting on a beach chair while still holding the tool. They drew their Tasers and ordered him to raise his hands and get on the ground.
During the encounter, he allegedly refused to comply and kicked an officer in the legs. He was eventually taken into custody. Before his arrest, he allegedly used the drill to damage a beach chair, causing about $500 in losses.
He was later charged with attempted aggravated battery, battery on a law enforcement officer, and criminal mischief, according to court records. He reportedly made an initial court appearance shortly after his arrest.
The man has reportedly had prior contact with the authorities. In a previous incident in 2023, he was arrested after allegedly attempting to take a jet ski while unclothed. That case was later dropped.
