A Florida man was accused of using 911 without having a legitimate emergency when he reportedly called the number because his girlfriend wanted to eat Sour Patch Kids candy.
37-year-old Joshua Larson lives in Madeira Beach, Florida.
Just before midnight on July 16, Larson was at his home with his girlfriend. It was reported that the woman told Larson that she wanted to eat Sour Patch Kids candy.
Larson reportedly responded to her craving by calling 911 to let them know.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office sent law enforcement to the address to find out why Larson placed the call to 911.
When they arrived at the residence, the officers reported that Larson was standing outside of the home.
They asked him why he called 911, and Larson allegedly grinned and did not respond to their question. The officers alleged that he turned around and tried to walk away from them.
It was reported that when they tried to detain him, Larson began to struggle and resist. It was also reported that the officers believed he was very drunk.
The police tried to put the handcuffs on Larson, but he reportedly continued to struggle. They decided it was necessary to find a way to subdue him, and they used an electronic control device.
Larson was taken into custody and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. It is expected that he will be charged with misuse of the wireless 911 system and obstruction for the alleged candy caper.
He was released on his own recognizance on Sunday. It was stipulated that Larson is required to wear an electronic monitor, and he is not allowed to drink any alcohol.
