A man in Palm Coast was arrested and charged after he allegedly pointed an air rifle at golfers behind his residence when they did not comply with his demands.
On April 17, a group of six men were on the 8th hole of The Conservatory course when a man allegedly began to yell at them from his yard and accused them of driving the golf cart in a manner that went against course rules. The man reportedly noticed that the golfers had taken the cart over a bridge and onto the island near the hole.
The resident, later identified as 74-year-old John Robert Orr, who has a cement wall and the water around the island between his yard and the course, allegedly demanded that the men depart immediately for their reported misuse of the golf cart.
When the men ignored Orr’s orders he allegedly went back into his house and retrieved a Winchester 4.5mm Air Rifle.
Orr reportedly returned to the yard and pointed the air pellet gun in the direction of the group of golfers, who reported that they became afraid that their lives were in danger.
When a deputy arrived at the location of the reported event he talked to the alleged victims who all gave similar statements when asked what transpired, and a video that they recorded during the alleged altercation was shown to the officer.
The deputy reported that he spoke with Orr about the situation after placing the man in handcuffs and reading him his Miranda Rights.
Orr allegedly stated that he became upset with the golfers for disrespecting him and his wife, but that he could not recall the reason he grabbed the air rifle, nor the position he pointed it when he confronted the men.
Orr was taken into custody and he is facing charges for suspicion of three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
