Florida Woman Accused of Pickleball Paddle Attack

A Florida woman was accused of attacking a man with a pickleball paddle following a dispute at a public pickleball court.

Investigators said the incident happened on May 31 at a park in Florida where several players had been participating in a doubles match. Authorities reported that a disagreement began during the game over retrieving a ball. The dispute did not end when the match was over and allegedly continued between one player and the suspect’s son.

According to investigators, at one point, the man approached her son to discuss criticism of his playing style. During that exchange, the woman allegedly became involved in the argument, and authorities said she struck the alleged victim several times in the head with a pickleball paddle.

The alleged victim suffered cuts to his face and was left bleeding, according to investigators. Witness statements and information gathered during the investigation reportedly indicated that the man was injured during the confrontation.

When the authorities arrived at the scene, investigators said the woman allegedly gave them a false name. Court documents stated that officers later determined her actual identity.

The woman reportedly told investigators that she had been acting to protect her son, but the authorities reported that they believed the witness accounts and statements from the alleged victim did not indicate there was an immediate threat of serious harm or violence to her son at the time of the incident.

Earlier this month, the woman was arrested in connection with the case. Prosecutors later filed felony charges accusing her of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She was also charged with providing a false name to law enforcement, according to court records.

Records showed that the woman was released after posting an $8,000 bond.
