A Georgia man is facing multiple charges after allegedly choking a woman at an apartment complex while occupants of the building reportedly witnessed what was described as a brutal attack.
On the evening of July 31, multiple tenants who reside in an apartment complex in Duxbury reportedly witnessed what they believed was a man trying to murder a resident in one of the building hallways. According to reports, the situation began when he went to the apartment where his girlfriend was and was made to leave. Afterwards, he allegedly walked into a different unit without permission, and things intensified when he was told to leave but refused. The man allegedly dragged a woman out of the apartment and into the hallway and wrapped his hands around her neck. Other tenants overheard the incident, and after allegedly watching him squeeze her throat and strangle her with no purported intention of letting go, in addition to telling her he was going to kill her. Some of the bystanders stepped in and successfully pulled the man away from her, and the authorities were notified about the incident.
Officers from the Duxbury Police Department went to the location, and when they first arrived, they did not see anything going on in the hallway. They talked to a resident who let them know which apartment the victim was in, and the officers went to the unit to talk to her.
The man was no longer present, but he was quickly found and placed under arrest. He is facing preliminary charges of one felony count of breaking and entering a building at nighttime, one count of assault to murder, and one count of strangulation and suffocation. It was reported that the investigation is ongoing.
