A Florida grandmother is facing charges after she was allegedly seen walking around in the street carrying a toddler identified as her grandchild while high on drugs and screaming.
Early in the morning on December 12, a 47-year-old woman was seen holding a youngster in her arms and yelling. It was believed that she was saying the child was unable to breathe. The authorities were notified, and officers with the Pensacola Police Department went to the scene to investigate.
According to reports, they found the youngster, identified as the woman’s grandson, and asserted that he was underdressed for the 45-degree weather. It was believed that he had been out in the cold for long enough that he might need medical care, so he was transported to a local hospital.
It was reported that when the officers spoke to the woman, her pupils were allegedly dilated, and she behaved in a way that made them believe she was altered from taking drugs. She informed them that her grandson had been in her care for four days. While talking to the officers, the woman reportedly had trouble expressing herself properly. She also reportedly peed on herself in front of the officers.
The woman was placed under arrest and booked into the Escambia County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges of one felony count of neglect of a child without great bodily harm. According to the online jail records, the woman is being held on a $5,000 bond.
The youngster was placed in the care of someone whose identity had not been disclosed, and the Florida Department of Children and Families was given a report about the incident.
