An attendee at a high school dance in Phoenix was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer when they were trying to detain him for accusations that he was carrying a gun and threatening students.
On the evening of October 18, Betty H Fairfax High School in Phoenix, Arizona, held its annual homecoming dance. While several of the students who attended the event enjoyed themselves, a few of the guests were accused of putting a damper on the fun with their purported aggressive behavior.
According to reports, one of the girls at the dance became concerned when she thought she saw a couple of male students who brought guns with them. She decided to call her mother to tell her about the situation. The authorities were notified, and officers from the Phoenix Police Department went to the school to investigate. When they arrived, they were told that two males were standing outside that they believed were involved in the situation. The officers approached them and searched them, but they did not find any weapons on them.
The school alerted the police that they believed a boy was inside the dance with a firearm, and he appeared to be threatening the students. When they tried to interact with him the boy reportedly became uncooperative and aggressive. One of the officers got hurt during the incident, and a Taser was eventually used to subdue the teen. When he calmed down, the police searched him for weapons, but they reported that they only found a pencil wrapped in cloth.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Durango Juvenile Court Center. He is facing preliminary charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
