The wife of the Sonoma County Sheriff was arrested for driving under the influence after she allegedly crashed her vehicle through the side of a home and injured one of the inhabitants.
Just before 1:00 AM on May 20, the Santa Rosa Police Department received a flow of calls reporting a situation where a vehicle smashed into a house.
The neighbors that notified the authorities said a car jumped the curb, went through a fence, and destroyed the front yard of a residence before propelling through the home.
One of the reports came from one of the homeowners, and they said someone drove a Tesla through their house and into their living room. They also reported that one of the inhabitants was injured in the accident. According to the inhabitants, the car flew through the air before it struck and entered the house.
Glass was shattered and materials from the wall of the home, in addition to furniture and décor on the inside, were shoved by the front of the vehicle.
One of the homeowners was sitting in the living room when the incident occurred, and she said she felt lucky for only sustaining minor injuries. She was covered with glass and flying debris, so she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The woman was taken into custody and booked into the Sonoma County Jail. She is expected to face charges for one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and injuring another person. She was released later that day after posting a $100,000 bond.
The sheriff released a statement regarding the incident and expressed concern for the well-being of his wife, in addition to the alleged victim injured during the accident.
