A man who worked for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services has been accused of having a collection of files on a computer, of which he is the purported owner, that contained several hundreds of digital images of pornography depicting children.
Last month, 54-year-old Carlos Enrique Castillo, a man who had a job with the LA DCFS, was allegedly found with more than 600 images in the form of digital pictures and videos on his PC that showed youngsters in a sexual manner.
An investigation into the situation reportedly uncovered details leading to the suspicion that Castillo not only had the pornographic materials but also had participated in sharing them online. The alleged activity has been reported as taking place over a period of approximately 120 days.
On June 19, Castillo was taken into custody and he is facing accusations of six felony charges comprised of five counts of sending or receiving obscene manner into state for sale, and one count of possession of over 600 images of child or youth pornography. He was later released after posting his ordered bond.
Castillo stood before a judge at his scheduled arraignment on Tuesday where he entered a plea of not guilty to the allegations. He has been restricted from coming into any kind of contact with underage persons unless he is supervised, and he has been prohibited from using the internet.
DCSF has issued a statement regarding the charges and they have disclosed their intentions to give their full cooperation to the authorities into the exploration of the details of the accusations.
A hearing is set to take place on August 16 where the objective is to learn if there is enough substantial information in order to prosecute Castillo for the allegations.
If Castillo is convicted as charged he could be sentenced to up to eight years and four months in prison.
