A Florida man was accused of causing a restaurant employee to believe they would be physically harmed when he allegedly said he was going to stab them with a box cutter.
Around 1:00 pm on August 5, a man reportedly walked into the Chilakil Mexican Grill in Naples and asked if he could use their wall outlet to charge his cell phone.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was identified as 27-year-old Sean McMullen.
It was reported that the man, who was shirtless and holding a beer purchased at a different establishment, was informed by one of the employees that he would be required to buy something if he wanted to use the outlet.
The man allegedly ignored the employee and plugged in his phone without making a purchase.
The staff member told the man that he would have to leave, but he reportedly ignored her. The woman walked back to the employee section behind the service counter.
A patron in the restaurant reported that they saw the encounter, and she said that the man had a box cutter-style knife in his hand after the employee walked away. The woman reported that he was waving the blade around in a way that suggested he would hurt the employee.
The employee left the building and went to a business next door. She reported that she was afraid of what the man might do to her, and she notified the authorities.
Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to the location.
When they arrived, the deputies said a man identified as McMullen was seated at a picnic table outside. He was asked if he had any weapons, and McMullen reportedly handed over a box cutter.
McMullen told the deputies that he never threatened anyone with the tool and that he only brought it out to display what he uses for his job.
McMullen was taken into custody for suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Naples County Jail.
