A purportedly drunk man was arrested after allegedly throwing a baby at one of two women he was reportedly beating.
35-year-old Jerekson Nez lives in Farmington, New Mexico.
On the afternoon of July 24, Nez and a woman were at his apartment.
A woman acquainted with Nez reported that she was bringing some food over for the couple. When she reached the residence she said she could hear the pair, who were in a bedroom at the time, hollering at each other.
When the woman came out of the bedroom, the witness reportedly noticed that her face had been injured and her clothing was torn.
Nez walked into the main room with a 1-month-old infant in his arms, and the witness reported that he seemed very intoxicated.
When she offered to hold the child, Nez allegedly hurled the infant in her direction.
The man allegedly had a knife in his hand. He reportedly struck the woman several times, causing her to fall backward onto the sofa.
As the woman dropped onto the furniture, Nez allegedly placed his knee upon the baby and beat her with the handle of the knife.
The woman said that she believed Nez was about to use the blade on her, and she was able to escape from the apartment.
Neighbors heard the ruckus called the authorities to report the incident.
When officers from the Farmington Police Department went to the address, they saw that all three adults and the infant were wounded.
They talked to Nez about the situation, and it was reported that the man spoke without clarity. The police asserted that he was drunk.
Nez, who said he had gotten hurt while working on a vehicle, was taken into custody. He was charged with felony child abuse, felony assault with a deadly weapon, and misdemeanor battery.
Nez was incarcerated in the county detention center without bond.
It was reported that the women and the infant are healing from their injuries.
