Mardi Gras Partier on Golf Cart Busted for DUI

A Florida Man celebrating Mardi Gras and operating a golf cart was arrested for driving under the influence when the police pulled him over due to an alleged failure to use his headlights.

24-year-old Joseph Anthony DiDonato lives in Wildwood at Lakeside Landings, which is in a community next to The Villages.

In the evening on March 1, DiDonato was in The Villages near the Lake Sumter Landing waterfront mall.

DiDonato was driving a golf cart around the area, and he allegedly failed to turn on the headlights.

A deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office spotted DiDonato and pulled him over after he reportedly did not obey a posted stop sign.

When DiDonato pulled over and talked to the deputy, the officer reported that the man showed several indications of being intoxicated. DiDonato’s eyes were reportedly red and glossy, and the man allegedly smelled like liquor.

According to reports, DiDonato had an opened bottle of cinnamon whiskey in the vehicle. When he was asked if he was under the influence, DiDonato allegedly told the deputy that he had been imbibing alcohol.

DiDonato reportedly performed poorly on the roadside sobriety tests. When he was given a breathalyzer test, DiDonato’s BAC was recorded as .097 and .096.

DiDonato was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. It is expected that he will face charges for driving under the influence of alcohol. He also received a citation for carrying an open bottle of whisky. He was released from custody on a $1,000 bond.
