Mom Crossing Street with Infant Injured in Hit-and-Run

A delivery driver working in a Northeast Miami-Dade neighborhood was arrested following a hit-and-run that left a mother and her 6-month-old son injured.

On the morning of August 22, a 45-year-old woman was driving what was believed to be an Amazon delivery vehicle and making package deliveries in the Aventura Isles gated community. At the same time, a 30-year-old woman was pushing her youngster in a stroller and walking her dog when she began to cross the street using the crosswalk. At the same time, the delivery driver was making a sharp left turn. The SUV struck the mother and child, and the impact caused the mother to fall onto the ground, and the infant was thrown out of the stroller. According to reports, before she drove away, the driver got out of the vehicle and put the 3-year-old, who was crying, back in his stroller.

A nurse who lived near the accident site heard the baby crying, and when she saw the mother lying in the street, she went outside to try to assist the alleged victims until the paramedics arrived. When they got there, they took the woman and child to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

When the police reviewed surveillance footage from a neighbor’s cam that captured the incident, it reportedly showed a woman getting out of the SUV, picking up the infant, and placing him back in the stroller.

At approximately 5:30 the following evening, the driver was taken into custody by officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department. She is facing preliminary charges for leaving the scene of the accident.

The baby had a bump on his head but has since been released from the hospital. His mother, who was diagnosed with a brain bleed and a skull fracture, remains in intensive care.

Amazon has not confirmed whether the woman was one of their drivers, but they said they are looking into it.
