A Pennsylvania woman was arrested after she allegedly attempted to harm two young children she had been asked to watch inside a Uniontown apartment.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred on March 27 when a mother left her 5-year-old and 11-year-old sons with her roommate while she briefly moved belongings. Police said the situation escalated when the mother returned and was unable to get back inside the apartment.
Investigators said the mother eventually made her way inside and allegedly discovered the roommate attempting to force the 5-year-old child out of a third-story window through a screen. A struggle reportedly followed between the two adults.
During the incident, the suspect allegedly told the child to get into the shower to “wash the sins out,” claiming the child was “dirty.” The authorities said the suspect then attempted to force both the child and the mother into the bathroom, where she allegedly dunked their heads underwater in the bathtub.
Police said the mother was able to escape the apartment with both children before officers arrived. When the authorities located them, all three were reportedly soaking wet but did not appear to have visible injuries.
Prosecutors stated that the lack of serious injuries likely influenced the decision not to pursue more severe charges at this time, though additional charges could still be filed as the investigation continues. Officials also indicated that a mental health evaluation may be considered as part of the case.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, recklessly endangering another person, and related offenses. She was later released after posting bond and was ordered to have no contact with the victims.
The investigation remained ongoing, according to the authorities.
