A 33-year-old man who fathered the child of an 11-year-old girl is facing felony charges for sexual abuse, but he denies that the birth was the result of a sexual encounter between the two.
New York resident Robert Cronin, his fiancée, and their 5 children live together in a home in Niskayuna.
In November, an 11-year-old girl with whom Cronin is acquainted gave birth to a child at a local hospital and Cronin was confirmed as the biological father through scientific testing.
While Cronin never disputed that he is the father of the baby he has stated that he is innocent of ever having sex with the young girl.
Approximately 8 weeks ago, the Niskayuna police were alerted by a hotline that received a tip concerning the possible sexual abuse of the child who is the mother of the infant.
When their investigations of the situation led them to Cronin he was placed under arrest and charged with felony predatory sexual abuse of a child under 13, and endangering the welfare of a child, and he was incarcerated without bail.
When Cronin took part in interviews with local media concerning the allegations he tearfully expressed that he never had sex with the girl, and even though he knows it sounds farfetched, she became pregnant by wearing a piece of clothing that he had ejaculated on while masturbating. Cronin, who has never been in trouble with the law before, also explained that he did not want to become known for a crime that he is innocent of.
The young mother and her baby were reported as being in very good condition and under the care of Child Protective Services.
Due to the severity of the charges Cronin could spend the rest of his life behind bars if he is found guilty of the allegations.
