Store Clerk Slapped over “Karen” Comment

A man shopping at a Pinellas County Dollar Tree store with his wife allegedly slapped a store employee working at the checkout across the face after the woman called his spouse a “Karen.”

On the evening of November 30, a Florida man and his wife went shopping at a Dollar Tree store in Clearwater.

When they finished collecting their items and went to the checkout counter, the woman and the cashier began to engage in a verbal disagreement. It was reported that plastic grocery bags were the cause of the spat.

The woman decided to record the heated interaction with the clerk, and the clerk showed her disdain by calling the woman a “Karen.”

According to reports, the woman’s husband heard what the clerk called his wife, and he slapped the worker across the face.

The authorities were notified, and officers with the Clearwater Police Department went to the store to investigate the incident.

They arrived just before 8:30 pm, and the police report reflects that there was someone in the store who witnessed the reported physical altercation.

The alleged batterer, who was identified as a resident of Newport Richey, was put in handcuffs and read his Miranda rights.

It was reported that the man told the police that there was an argument about grocery bags, but he decided he would not speak to them any further about the incident.

The man was placed under arrest and booked into the Clearwater County Jail. He is facing a felony battery charge for the incident because he was previously convicted of a battery charge from the Rockfalls Police Department in 2000. He was released from custody the following day on a $2,500 bond.
