GoldRush Rally co-founder Benjamin Chen totaled his limited edition Gemballa Mirage GT by smashing into at least four other vehicles while allegedly driving under the influence.
Around 7:30 am on Tuesday, Benjamin Chen was reportedly driving his blue Gemballa Mirage GT in Hell’s Kitchen on the West side of Manhattan. When the rare vehicle, which was heavily inspired by the Porsche Carrera GT, was created only 25 were made by the manufacturer.
Chen, who is a reported collector of exotic vehicles, allegedly began hitting into parked vehicles on 47th Street and crashed into four other parked vehicles in the three blocks that he reportedly continued driving until he was stopped by police.
A video of the incident was released where it appears that Chen initially lost control of his car before making an impact with the first vehicle, a minivan, and the resulting crashes happened after he reportedly sped away from the scene.
Chen was placed under arrest by the New York Police Department and they expect him to face charges for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, and reckless driving, though media outlets have reported that the official charges are still pending.
While Chen’s Gemballa Mirage GT is completely out of commission after taking such irreparable front-end damage, no people were reported as being injured during the incident and the parked cars were unoccupied during the event.
