Suspect Charged for Punching Man Who Called Him Drew Carey

A man was arrested when another man reportedly called him Drew Carey, and he allegedly responded to the comment by hitting him in the face.

On March 8, 34-year-old Brian Harrison Baer from North Carolina was visiting Jimmy B’s Beach Bar at The Beachcomber in St. Pete’s Beach, Florida.

When Baer decided he would leave the bar, he reportedly interacted with a man named Casey Simons. The police report did not specify whether Baer and Simmons were previously acquainted.

Around 1:30 am, Simons reportedly offered up his opinion that Baer resembles Drew Carey, the comedian/actor and current game show host of The Price is Right.

After learning Simons’ thoughts about his appearance, Baer allegedly took offense to the comment and showed his displeasure by allegedly punching Simons in the face.

According to the arrest affidavit, Simons and Baer ended up on the ground together during the incident, and they asserted that they had gotten there because Baer tackled the man. Simons reportedly came out of the scuffle with scratches on one of his knees. It was additionally reported that Simons’ lip appeared to have an abrasion due to being hit in the face.

When the authorities arrived in response to an alleged fight, statements were collected and it was deemed that Baer was responsible for the situation. It was also asserted by the arresting officer that alcohol was likely a factor that fueled the intensity of the alleged event.

Baer was taken into custody and charged for suspicion of first-degree battery. He was placed into the Pinellas County Jail on a $500 bond.

Baer was released from jail around 9:30 the next morning after posting his ordered bond amount.
