A married couple and their three adult children have been accused of inflicting several types of abuse upon one of their legally disabled relatives, a woman with autism and other diagnoses, who has lived with them for the past three years.

When the mother of a 22-year-old autistic woman passed away in August 2015, she moved into a trailer on the property of her family members who have a home that they share with their children. The woman reportedly slept on a bed inside of the trailer parked on the property.

On August 13, 2015, one day after the woman’s mother died, 45-year-old Terry Knope, the husband of her blood relation, 42-year-old Raylaine Knope, took over as the executor of the SSI benefits received due to her disability. He was awarded the responsibility in order to make sure that the near $9,000 a year was used to ensure that the woman’s housing and other basic needs were met.

A couple was arrested on Wednesday when authorities found that they live in a box made of plywood, and had been residing there with their three children for several years.

Mona Kirk and Daniel Panico of Joshua Tree have three children and they have reportedly lived well below the poverty level for quite some time. The couple owns a piece of land in a rural area, and they have parked a trailer on the property in order to provide shelter to their family. Near the trailer, they have an outdoor box-like structure made out of plywood, and there is no electricity or running water on the land. They have been making ends meet in this fashion for the last four years.

The children, ages 11, 13 and 14 are homeschooled and are said to be very intelligent. Their parents keep them active in community activities such as the local scout group, and frequented educational spots including the Hi-Desert Nature Museum in Yucca Valley, and the public library, as reported by friends of the family.

A juvenile boy was reportedly left by his parents to fend for himself in an unfurnished trailer for approximately two months, and the couple is now facing charges.

Jennifer Nichols and Joshua Sanders of Pensacola, Florida rented a trailer in the beginning of September this year. The woman who rented the dwelling to them noted that they did not furnish the interior, and their child was living there without them. She stated that she attempted to provide some care for the boy, but it was not the amount of care that a guardian would offer him.

Nichols and Sanders allegedly visited on occasion and left the child with a little bit of money and a couple of meals. The landlady decided to reach out to the parents before contacting the authorities, and she informed them that they would need to move on site with their child or move him to another location where he would receive the care he needed. She told police that Sanders responded by telling her it was not her business as long as the rent payments were current.

A man suspected of assisting in transporting illegal aliens into the United States for profit and without regard for their safety entered a plea of guilty at his arraignment on Monday.

As stated in court records, on July 23, 2017, San Antonio Police investigated a call leading them to a tractor-trailer parked behind a Walmart. Several illegal aliens were discovered standing while others were lying near the back of the trailer, and 61-year-old James Matthew Bradley Jr. was in the driver’s seat.

Among the 39 people found by police four of them were unaccompanied minors between the ages of 14 and 17. Eight of the aliens were found deceased in the trailer and two died later in the hospital. The illegals interviewed claimed the trailer carried up to 200 people during the course of the transit, and cited varying amounts Bradley had charged for the transportation services. Bradley affirmed that these allegations were true. He is being held pending sentencing on January 22, 2018 and faces a penalty as high as life in prison.
