Tennessee Man Accused of Setting Mother on Fire

Authorities in Tennessee reported that a man was arrested after allegedly setting his mom and her home on fire during a domestic dispute early last Thursday morning.

According to the authorities, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported arson at a residence. When they arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Investigators said the victim told deputies that her son had allegedly returned to the home with a container of gasoline after an ongoing dispute related to her efforts to evict him. As she attempted to leave the residence, he reportedly poured gasoline on both her and the house before igniting it. The victim also claimed her phone was destroyed to prevent her from calling 911.

Despite the situation, the woman reportedly managed to escape the burning home and reached a neighbor’s residence, where she was able to contact emergency services.

The authorities said the victim suffered burns to her arms and was initially taken to a local hospital. She was later transported to a regional medical center for further treatment. The extent of her injuries was not immediately disclosed.

Officials stated that the suspect was located nearby shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Deputies reportedly used a drone during the search, which helped locate personal belongings connected to the suspect. He was ultimately found in a nearby field, where authorities said he was allegedly watching the fire.

The man was booked into the Washington County Detention Center and was reportedly being held without bond. He faced multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, attempted especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated arson, aggravated burglary, and interference with a 911 call. At the time this was written, he was being held without bail.
