Tennessee Man Arrested After Biting Infant Son

A Tennessee man was taken into custody after he allegedly injured his infant son during a late-night incident that began at multiple locations before ending inside a restaurant.

The investigation reportedly started after an ambulance request around 1 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man inside a Memphis restaurant who appeared to be screaming and in distress while holding a baby. Witnesses told the authorities that the situation had escalated quickly moments before officers got there.

According to reports, the man had been seen earlier at more than one gas station carrying the infant and asking strangers for help. Witnesses said he appeared panicked and left each location before eventually entering the restaurant.

Inside the business, staff told the authorities that the man went into a kitchen area, got down on the floor with the child, and began acting erratically. He allegedly claimed that family members were trying to harm him and said he needed help. Witnesses reported that the baby appeared to be in distress as the man held him tightly.

Several people inside the restaurant attempted to intervene after noticing the infant’s condition. According to the authorities, the child began to show signs of distress, and witnesses said they tried to take the baby away. During that struggle, the man allegedly bit the infant on the cheek.

Bystanders were eventually able to separate the child from the man and move outside the building. Emergency responders transported the infant to a hospital, where he was treated for a facial injury that was reported to be non-critical.

During the investigation, the child’s mother told the authorities that the man had allegedly pushed her from a moving vehicle earlier and then drove away with the infant.

The man was later arrested and booked into a local jail on a charge related to domestic assault causing bodily harm.
