A Kentucky college student was reportedly accused of seriously injuring another man during a late-night altercation that led to a weeklong hospital stay.
According to court documents, the incident allegedly occurred in the early morning hours of April 10 at a bar in Lexington. The authorities said an argument began between two individuals inside the establishment. At some point, another man reportedly stepped in and attempted to calm the situation.
Investigators said the situation escalated when the suspect allegedly reacted by striking the man in the face. The blow reportedly caused the victim to fall backward and hit his head on the ground. The victim was said to have lost consciousness for several minutes following the impact.
Medical records cited in the investigation reportedly showed the man suffered multiple serious injuries, including a brain bleed, a fractured skull, and a severe concussion. He was hospitalized for about a week and later continued receiving treatment at a rehabilitation facility. Authorities noted that such injuries can carry a significant risk of death.
The suspect was later identified through interviews and other evidence, including surveillance footage that reportedly captured the incident. Officials also confirmed the individual was a student at a local university.
Following the investigation, the suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked into the Fayette County jail. He was reportedly charged with first-degree assault in connection with the incident.
While serving a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, the authorities allegedly discovered multiple fake identification cards. As a result, he also faced nine counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
The case remained under review, and the suspect was being held on a $50,000 bond.
