A Florida man was arrested for domestic battery after he allegedly used sausage as a ranged weapon and struck his wife with it during an argument.
It was reported that on the afternoon of December 2, a 64-year-old woman and her 61-year-old husband were together at their St. Petersburg, Florida, residence when they found themselves embroiled in an argument. According to the arrest affidavit, it was believed that the man had been drinking alcohol, but whether the police believe it may have played a part in the alleged incident is unknown.
It was additionally reported that the fight, in which the details of what caused it were not disclosed, started getting more heated, and the man allegedly grabbed sausage and threw it in the direction of his wife. The meat product reportedly hit the woman in the face.
The authorities were notified, and officers with the St. Petersburg Police Department headed to the address to assess the reported situation. Emergency Medical Technicians went to the home as well.
When they inspected the incurred injuries, an EMS technician decided the woman would benefit from a medical eye wash procedure using saline solution, and they provided it to her on-site.
The man was taken into custody and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. He is facing preliminary charges for one count of misdemeanor domestic battery for the allegations. He was released the following afternoon on his own recognizance, stipulating that he is not allowed to have contact with his wife in any way.
According to reports, the man denied harming his wife with the pork product, and he has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
