Woman with Dark Sense of Humor Threatened to Shoot Classmates

A Manchester University student with a “dark sense of humor” was arrested after allegedly sending students text messages containing gun emojis and threats.

On November 6, several students at Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana reportedly received threatening text messages from someone they believed was their 23-year-old fellow attendee. In addition to threats to physically harm or shoot them on campus, the messages reportedly contained gun emojis. According to reports, the woman also made verbal comments to the students that were interpreted as threats to shoot them in class.

Some of the students began reporting the situation to the school in emails, and they said they felt vulnerable to potential gun violence since the campus was not secure enough for them to believe they would be protected in the event of a dangerous incident. They also said that many students chose not to come forward because they feared they would put themselves at greater risk if they reported the situation. Screenshots of some of the allegedly threatening text messages were attached to the emails.

The authorities were notified, and the screenshots and emails from the students to the administration were shared with them as evidence of the communications. They spoke to the suspect about the situation, and she reportedly told them she did not plan to harm anyone. She allegedly said it was her “dark sense of humor” that caused the issue. The officers ordered her to apologize for her actions by writing a letter to the school and student body.

The woman was taken into custody on November 8. She is facing preliminary charges of two felony counts of intimidation and was released after posting a $2,500 bond.
