A Minnesota man was taken into custody after allegedly attacking his wife with a hammer inside their home while an Amazon delivery driver was making a package drop-off nearby.
According to charging documents, the incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. on May 11 in Wyoming, Minnesota. The authorities said an Amazon driver contacted 911 after hearing yelling coming from inside the residence while delivering a package.
The caller went to check on the situation and allegedly found a woman covered in blood while a man stood nearby holding a hammer. The driver reportedly told the man to put the weapon down before calling for help.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found the injured woman lying on the living room floor with blood around her. Investigators said she had visible head wounds that appeared consistent with being struck multiple times with a hammer. A bloody hammer was also reportedly found inside the home.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman told the authorities that her husband hit her in the head twice during the alleged assault. She reportedly said she managed to kick him in the groin while he was on top of her in order to get away.
The authorities said the suspect was still inside the residence when officers arrived. Investigators reportedly located him in the basement area of the home and took him into custody without further incident after ordering him upstairs.
Court documents stated that the man allegedly admitted to striking the woman with the hammer during questioning. Investigators also claimed he told them he had been thinking about killing her for several days because of financial concerns and worries about reduced Social Security income.
The suspect is facing preliminary charges of first-degree premeditated attempted murder and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He was being held at the county jail following the incident.
