Woman Called and Harassed Police More Than 11,000 Times

A woman has been accused of placing over 11,000 calls to the local and county emergency communications centers and harassing the staff when they answered.

51-year-old Carla Jefferson lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, and according to an arrest report, she is currently unemployed. She has a lengthy criminal record in Pinellas County. She also served a two-year sentence for a prior conviction.

The authorities reported that since the beginning of 2022, they have received over 11,000 calls from a woman they identified as Jefferson. The caller contacted the emergency communications centers for the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The calls reportedly came from two different phone numbers registered to Jefferson.

According to the affidavit, Jefferson is highly abusive to the staff when the call connects. She allegedly makes disparaging comments and threats and uses foul language.

Jefferson allegedly called more than once and said she wanted them to arrest her, but when the police went to her address, she reportedly gave them the finger and would not open the door.

In the middle of May, the communication center reported they received over 500 phone calls in 24 hours.

The authorities sent a letter to Jefferson telling her that she had to stop calling unless she needed the police. They also informed her that her actions would be considered criminal if she did not.

The woman reportedly continued to call, and the police placed her under arrest on June 30. Jefferson was released on bond shortly after she was booked.

After bailing out of jail in June, Jefferson allegedly placed several additional harassing phone calls.

On August 8, Jefferson was taken into custody for misdemeanor harassing phone calls. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and released on August 9.

It was reported that the authorities estimated that the calls from Jefferson made up 10 percent of their total calls since the beginning of the year.
