Atlanta Man Allegedly Assaulted Woman and Stole Police Car

A woman was walking in Atlanta when a man allegedly followed her from a commuter train, attacked her, and took her phone and driver’s license.

According to police, the incident happened around 2 p.m. Saturday at a location in Atlanta. Police video showed a man chasing the woman before tackling her. He allegedly punched her while she was on the ground and then ran away with her belongings. Some people were nearby but they did not immediately assist the alleged victim.

Police later identified the man and arrested him at a residence around 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Officers said he became angry when they approached him and raised his fists. He allegedly made statements about the earlier assault and then threatened the officers, saying he would shoot them and others.

The man then reportedly went behind a police cruiser, got inside, and drove away. Police said he drove into Clayton County, where he crashed the stolen cruiser into a tanker truck. Officers arrested him after the crash and took him to the Fulton County Jail.

The woman eventually got her phone back from police. After checking out the phone, she discovered that the man had allegedly left a threatening message on her voicemail greeting. In the message, he allegedly threatened to shoot her and demanded $600 through Cash App.

The woman, a Georgia State University student, said she was fighting for her life in the middle of the street when the suspect assaulted her. She also described the man as a repeat offender and said his criminal history included attempted robbery and battery.

The man was accused of battery, robbery, terroristic threats, hijacking a motor vehicle, and other offenses. At the time this was written, he was being held in lieu of a $67,000 bond.
