Child in Coma from Savage Abuse by Foster Mom

A 4-year-old in Norwalk, California is in a coma in the hospital after his foster mother allegedly nearly beat him to death.

Gabriela Casarez is a foster mother to a 4-year-old, and they reside in Los Angeles County.

In the afternoon on October 28, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department learned about a child that may have been subjected to severe abuse. They reported that the child was in immediate need of medical attention, and he was taken to the hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

It is believed that the child, whose name is not given due to his age, was not with anyone except his foster mom at the time that the injuries were sustained.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victim Bureau began an investigation.

When the child’s aunt learned about her nephew’s condition, she said that she believes the Department of Child and Family Services is accountable for the situation. She feels that they do not take enough care in ensuring a safe environment, and the family is planning to file charges against the agency.

The child’s birth mother has not been allowed to learn many details about the situation, but the family’s attorney believes there is clear-cut evidence that the youngster is the victim of child abuse.

Casarez was taken into custody on October 29 and booked into Los Angeles County Jail. She is facing charges for felony assault on a child, and two counts of child abuse likely to cause great bodily injury or death. Casarez is being held in lieu of a $1.2 million bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on December 6.

It was reported that the youngster is still in critical condition.
