A convicted felon who was accused of stealing a boat reportedly tried to escape from the police by fleeing on a riding lawnmower.
40-year-old Dusty Mobley is from Holt, Florida. According to county jail records, Mobley has a long history of arrests and convictions that began in 2004.
On January 1, a boat was reported stolen from a metal building in Baker.
When the police investigated the situation, they believed it was taken through a hole that was cut in the building with heavy machinery.
The authorities suspected Mobley was the person responsible for the boat theft.
It was reported that on January 3, Mobley was in a boat on the Yellow River when the police tried to interact with him. The authorities believed that the vessel, with a reported value of $40,000, had been stolen and that Mobley was involved in the theft.
Mobley reportedly jumped off the boat and into a swampy part of the river. The authorities were unable to detain him.
The police obtained a warrant, and they went to the man’s home in the morning on July 9.
When Mobley saw officers with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department approaching, the man reportedly hopped on a John Deere riding lawn mower.
According to reports, Mobley put the lawnmower into high gear and forced the deputies to chase after him.
Before he got too far, a deputy used a taser on Mobley and ended his alleged attempted getaway.
Mobley was placed under arrest and booked into Okaloosa County Jail. He is facing charges of grand theft, grand theft of a vehicle, felony criminal mischief, two counts of resisting an officer, possession of a concealed weapon by a felon, carrying a concealed handcuff key, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony failure to appear. He is being held without bond.
