Florida Woman Accused in $120K SNAP Fraud Scheme

A South Florida woman was accused of running a fraud scheme that reportedly affected about 200 people and resulted in more than $120,000 in stolen Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, according to the authorities.

Investigators said the case began on July 20, 2025, when deputies responded to a report of fraudulent use of an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card at a Walmart in Cooper City. That call led to a broader investigation that lasted several months. During that time, the authorities said they interviewed more than 30 victims and later identified roughly 200 people who were impacted.

According to the authorities, the woman allegedly obtained EBT card numbers, PINs, and account balances from multiple sources. Officials said the information was reportedly sent to her electronically through phones. Detectives alleged she then used the stolen data to make unauthorized purchases, often buying items such as energy drinks and sports drinks.

The authorities said those items were later resold to local corner and convenience stores, allowing her to turn the benefits into cash. Investigators also alleged she used the stolen information to place online orders through major retailers, having goods shipped to addresses under her control.

Records showed that between December 2024 and July 2025, the affected accounts had a combined balance of $122,637.03. Detectives said messages tied to the case indicated a sense of urgency among those involved, with efforts focused on using the benefits before the victims noticed.

A review of the woman’s phone reportedly uncovered hundreds of stolen card numbers and PINs stored in a notes application, along with messages linking her to the operation. She allegedly admitted involvement and agreed to keep a majority share of the profits.

The authorities arrested the woman at her home on April 7. She was later held in jail on charges including trafficking in counterfeit credit cards and criminal use of personal identification information. Her bond was set at $300,000.
