A food delivery driver was arrested after the authorities said he allegedly attacked a customer during a dispute over a mobile app order in Pembroke Pines.
The incident reportedly took place late Sunday night, April 5, near a gated community. According to an arrest report, the driver had been instructed to meet the customer outside the neighborhood because he did not have access through the gate.
Investigators said the situation escalated after the food was handed over. The customer placed the order inside his vehicle, but the driver’s app allegedly did not show the delivery as complete. The driver then reportedly insisted the food be returned, claiming he would not be paid unless the delivery was marked properly at the listed address.
The authorities said the disagreement quickly turned physical. The driver allegedly reached into the customer’s vehicle through an open window while the car was still in drive, and the vehicle moved forward several feet before being stopped. At that point, the driver reportedly bit the customer on the upper back, pulled him from the vehicle, and struck him multiple times.
Officers noted the customer suffered visible injuries, including cuts to the face, bruising, a bite mark, and other abrasions. The driver reportedly did not have similar injuries.
When questioned, the driver allegedly admitted there had been a confrontation over the order but claimed he had been pulled into the vehicle.
First responders took the driver to a local hospital for evaluation before the authorities placed him under arrest. He was later booked into jail on April 6 and faced a felony charge of burglary with assault or battery. Jail records reportedly showed he was no longer listed as an inmate a few days later, and he pleaded not guilty.
