Former PA AG Kathleen Kane Charged for DUI

Kathleen Kane, the former Pennsylvania Attorney General, was arrested last weekend after a car crash for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

In 2013, Kathleen Kane served as the 48th Attorney General of Pennsylvania. She is also the first woman elected to the position.

Kane’s time as Attorney General ended when she resigned after being convicted of felony perjury, and many misdemeanors including oppression, obstruction, and conspiracy charges.

At the end of July 2019, Kane was released from incarceration, and she is still on probation.

On the evening of March 12, Kane was driving in Scranton with a passenger in the car when she was involved in a two-vehicle accident.

According to reports, the other driver notified the authorities after the collision.

When the police arrived at the scene, they spoke with Kane and said that she smelled like she had been drinking. They asked her if she drank anything, and Kane allegedly said that she did not.

It was reported that Kane explained that she was the designated driver for her passenger, identified as her sister, who had been out drinking.

The other driver involved in the crash talked to the police and said that Kane was the one who hit him. He reportedly said she initially tried to handle the matter without involving the authorities. He asserted that he could smell alcohol when he interacted with her and that she sprayed herself with perfume in a purported attempt to cover the smell of liquor.

Kane, who refused to consent to a blood test, was placed under arrest and taken to the Lackawanna County Criminal Justice Center. She may face charges of DUI and careless driving. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 21.
