Man Fired Gun at Brother in Defense of Ex’s Cooking

A Michigan man allegedly became upset with his brother for poking fun at his ex-wife’s culinary skills and responded by firing a gun at his instigating sibling.

On the evening of June 25, 43-year-old Andrew C. Phelps was hanging out in his garage with his 47-year-old brother.

While the men were talking, Phelps’ brother commented on his ex-wife’s ability to cook. His brother said he was kidding, but Phelps reportedly did not find it funny.

Phelps allegedly reacted to the comment by grabbing a 9mm handgun and firing it in his brother’s direction.

His sibling said that the bullet came within inches of striking him in the head, and he fled from the garage.

The alleged victim went to a nearby home and told the inhabitant that he needed to notify the authorities because someone fired a bullet at him.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Department sent deputies to the address.

When they got close to the area, the alleged victim intercepted the police before they reached Phelps’ house.

The man spoke to the deputies so he could give them a statement.

After talking to the alleged victim, the authorities went to Phelps’ home. They used a PA system to ask the man to come outside.

Phelps complied with the police when they summoned him. It was reported that he immediately informed them that he would not speak without an attorney present.

The authorities reported that they saw a handgun in Phelps’ garage, and they noticed a bullet hole in one of the walls.

Phelps was placed under arrest, and he was given a breath test to check his BAC. It was reported that he blew .054.

He is facing charges for suspicion of assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm in or at a building.
