Man Set Girlfriend’s Family Home on Fire During Argument

A man in New Jersey was arrested after a dispute with his girlfriend allegedly led to him setting her family’s home on fire.

Just before 3:00 AM on September 3, a 50-year-old man went to the house where his girlfriend lives with her family. Her mother and father, who own the home, were there when he arrived.

According to reports, while the couple was talking, they had a disagreement, and someone else in the home overheard the conflict. They decided that they would ask the man to leave, but he reportedly refused. The family called the police, who had already come to their house a few hours earlier because of a noise complaint and asked for their help with making the man go.

Officers from the South Brunswick Police Department were heading back to the residence to assist when they were alerted that another call came in reporting that the same man had allegedly set the house on fire. The Kendall Park, Monmouth Junction, and Kingston fire departments were sent to the address, and the South Brunswick Deputy Fire Marshal also went to the scene to investigate.

The police noted that there was a total of four people inside when the blaze started, one of whom was the suspect, and they all got out safely. The fire was large, and it was reported that high flames were coming from the roof.

After the initial investigation, the suspect, who was still on the property, was taken into custody and booked into the Middlesex County Corrections Center. He is facing preliminary charges of aggravated arson and domestic violence. According to jail records, he is currently being held without bond.
