A Florida woman was arrested after allegedly battering her mom by throwing grits in her face during breakfast.
On January 12, a woman was cooking breakfast in her residence in Ocala, Florida, and her 28-year-old daughter was in the kitchen with her. Her daughter wanted access to the kitchen so she could bake a pizza in the oven, and she reportedly became frustrated when her mother did not allow her to do so. Her mom reportedly told her she cooked several breakfast items, including the grits she was preparing.
Her daughter reportedly started yelling at her, and things quickly escalated. The woman allegedly grabbed grits in her bare hand and threw them in her mother’s direction. The flying food reportedly landed on the woman’s face.
The authorities were notified, and a deputy from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office went to the residence to see what was happening. When they arrived, they reportedly spotted grits on the floor and the kitchen counter. When speaking to the mother, it was reported that it appeared as if grits were dried on her face. She reportedly explained that she didn’t want the police involved and did not want her daughter to get in trouble for the domestic incident.
According to the police report, “Due to the victim having grits on her face which matched the ones on the counter and the unlikelihood of the victim hitting herself in the face with grits,” her daughter was taken into custody and booked into the Marion County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges of misdemeanor battery – touch or strike, and she is being held in lieu of a $2,500 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for March 21.
