Parents Left Preteen at Home by Himself for Weeks

Parents have been charged with neglecting their son after they were accused of leaving the preteen home alone and without adult supervision for at least 2 weeks.

34-year-old Melissa Green and Bobby Jo Green, 40, have an 11-year-old son. They reside in Elfrida, Arizona.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office reported that in the evening on December 12, they got a call from someone that asked them to perform a welfare check at the Green’s address. The authorities reported that they were told that a child who lives there with his parents appeared to have been left alone for many days.

When deputies arrived, they reported that they talked to an 11-year-old boy who told them that his parents were out of the state at the time. He said that his mom left home before Thanksgiving and his dad went away after the holiday.

The boy reportedly said that he hadn’t gone to school for two weeks. He also informed the authorities that he had plenty of frozen food in the house.

When his parents were identified, the authorities reported that they tried to get in touch with them. They said they were not able to reach them, and they reported that they hadn’t been able to find any of his relatives when they tried.

Child Protective Services stepped in and took custody of the boy since they could not contact his family at the time.

Both Melissa and Bobby Jo came back home, and they were taken into custody.

Melissa and Bobby Jo were both arrested and booked into the Cochise County Jail. They are each facing charges of three counts of child neglect. They are each being held in lieu of $100,000 bonds.
