A Florida man already in jail for a felony theft crime was charged with another felony last week after being identified as a suspect in a case involving a man who reportedly stole from a store and struck the manager in the face with crackers.

Last September, an individual reportedly went into a Family Dollar store and put approximately $50 worth of cleaning products and a package of Goldfish crackers in his basket. According to the police report, the man “passed all points of sale and exited the building without paying.” The manager reported that after he walked out, he went up to a parked car and handed the basket full of allegedly stolen items to someone in the passenger seat. She approached the man, and when the woman tried to talk to him, he reportedly struck her in the face with the box of Goldfish crackers.

The authorities were notified, and although the suspect was no longer at the scene, they collected statements, surveillance video, and the box allegedly used to hit the manager to try to discover their identity. The cracker box was inspected by forensics, and they were able to lift a fingerprint off the package. It reportedly matched a man who had a long list of priors. When the video was reviewed, the police believed the individual was the man whose fingerprints were on the box.
