A married couple in Georgia was allegedly robbing a convenience store at gunpoint when a few of the customers intervened and used their own firearms to prevent it.
Early in the evening on January 9, an Ideal Mart market in Gilmer County was visited by a man who was using a pair of women’s underwear as a makeshift face mask. The purported patron grabbed an energy drink from the cooler.
According to reports, the man approached the cashier and pulled out a .45 caliber. He allegedly pointed it at the employee and told them to hand over the money.
A customer who was carrying a gun saw the encounter, and they used it to protect the employee and stop the alleged robber. Another patron also intervened by going to their car and retrieving their gun.
The suspect tried to leave the building, but a third shopper with a gun prevented him from taking off. The armed customers got him to drop his weapon.
The authorities were notified, and when they arrived, they reported that when they tried to detain the alleged robber, he refused to cooperate. An officer used their taser on the man to subdue him.
The man was placed under arrest and booked into the Gilmer County Adult Detention Center. It is expected that he will face charges for suspicion of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
When the authorities found his wife sitting in the car next to the market, they took the woman into custody and booked her into the Gilmer County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of armed robbery, intimidation, and taking control of a substance.
