The owner of an event venue in Florida was arrested after allegedly pulling out a gun and pointing it while demanding that the attendees at a wedding reception vacate the building.
On March 2, a couple held their wedding reception at the Cielo Farms venue in Southwest Ranches.
The couple said they had a contract stating they were allowed to hold their reception until 11:30 PM.
At approximately 10:45 PM, the venue owner’s 31-year-old son told the DJ the party needed to be over by 11:00 PM. The venue owner was reportedly concerned that they might get noise complaints for the DJ playing after 11:00 PM.
The 58-year-old owner allegedly entered with a gun and started screaming at the guests, ordering them to leave. In a video captured of the incident, someone that appeared to be the owner can be seen waving a gun around and pointing it directly at some of the attendees.
People were screaming and trying to gather their belongings so they could quickly depart, and the owner’s son reportedly shoved and struck two women.
Several of the people at the event reported that they were afraid they and their families would be killed before they could leave.
The venue owner was placed under arrest and booked into the Broward County Jail. He is expected to face charges of nine counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
The man’s son was also taken into custody for suspicion of battery and resisting arrest. He was incarcerated in the Broward County Jail.
His attorney gave a statement saying, “When the evidence comes out in this case about what happened before the tape was rolling, I believe it is going to show that my client is in fact not guilty.”
