Merrillville Councilman Arrested for Domestic Violence

An elected town councilman in Indiana was charged with many crimes after an alleged domestic violence-related situation brought the authorities to his home.
69-year-old Donald Spann resides in Merrillville, where he was also elected as the town councilman for Ward 1.
In the afternoon on October 31, Spann was reportedly at home with his wife. The pair reportedly got into an altercation, and it led to someone from the home trying to notify the authorities for law enforcement intervention.
It was reported that just before 2:00 pm, a 911 operator answered a call that was immediately disconnected. It was purported that the person trying to contact them had possibly hung up before reporting an incident.
After the address that the call reportedly came from was traced, the Merrillville Police Department sent officers to the residence to check out the situation.
When they arrived, the authorities reported that a woman spoke with them, and they identified her as the alleged victim. They said that she claimed her husband had battered her.
The officers asserted that the woman was likely trying to call 911 during the domestic disturbance, and they believed her husband may have somehow intervened and stopped her from completing the call for help.
After they identified Spann and spoke with him about the situation between himself and his wife, the officers believed that they had collected enough probable cause to place him under arrest for suspicion of domestic violence, in addition to other related infractions.
Lake Superior Court records denote that Spann was taken into custody for allegations of domestic battery, interference with reporting a crime, knowingly or intentionally forcibly resisting law enforcement, battery, and disorderly conduct for unreasonable noise.
