Livestreaming Kidnapper Arrested after 19-Hour Standoff

A couple in Palmdale allegedly kidnapped a child, and the woman and youngster remained barricaded in the apartment for nearly a full day while she streamed a live feed of the event on the internet.
Around 5:00 pm on October 21, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Special Enforcement Bureau learned that a man and woman were in a Palmdale apartment with a child they allegedly kidnapped.
The authorities went to the apartment complex, and they reported that when they arrived, they found that the suspects were inside a unit on the second floor. They had reportedly barricaded themselves and the child in the apartment.
Approximately an hour after the police arrived at the address, they were able to take the male suspect into custody.
According to reports, the woman refused to give herself up and she remained inside the complex with the child. The authorities evacuated the surrounding units.
It was learned that the woman was using the internet to live stream during the incident. She reportedly spoke to the viewers about how she did not have a “fair trial.” The woman allegedly said the coroner would have to retrieve her because she was not going to surrender.
Around 1:00 am, the authorities disconnected the power to the unit, which ended the broadcast.
It was reported that the woman made herself visible to the police on and off, as she held the child and went out onto the apartment’s balcony. Crisis negotiators tried to encourage her to allow the police to intervene.
The authorities tried to detain the woman for approximately 19 hours before she was arrested.
No one was reported as being injured during the incident.
