A man walked into a police department and told a sergeant to place him under arrest because he had pornographic images of young girls on his cell phone.
An officer working at the desk in the Pensacola Police Department on Friday afternoon was approached by a man who had walked in to report himself for a crime.
The man, 24-year-old Cory Hinsch, reportedly showed the cop his cell phone and the screen allegedly displayed an image of a female child. The officer assessed the girl, who was sans clothing, and it appeared as if she was behaving in a sexual manner. It was determined that she looked as if she was likely around 8-years-old.
When Hinsch was taken to a room so that the situation could be discussed and investigated further he allegedly requested he be placed in jail for the pictures on his phone.
The police report reflects that after he was read his rights Hinsch first asked for an attorney before making a statement, but then allegedly changed his mind and said he wanted to talk about it before he had representation present.
Hinsch reportedly said that he downloaded the pictures of the young girls from the dark web, and he consented to a search of the contents of his phone. Two pornographic pictures were allegedly discovered that showed girls under the age of 12.
During a report with a local news station regarding the incident, the police department’s Public Information Officer said that it is “odd” that someone would surrender in the way that Hinsch did, and it has been posited that he may have been seeking help.
As he requested, Hinsch was placed under arrest and he is facing charges of two counts of possession of child pornography. His bail was set at $20,000 and he was released after four days when he paid 50% of the amount.
