Man Pulled Machete on Woman For Turning Down Date

A homeless man who asked a woman to date him allegedly pulled a machete out of his belt and frightened her after she denied his request for her exclusive company.

Around 7:00 pm on October 4, 55-year-old Leonard Thomas from Clearwater, Florida, was reportedly spending time with a female acquaintance.

During their time together Thomas allegedly verbalized a desire to date the woman, and she reportedly expressed that she was not interested in his proposal.

Upon hearing her rejection, Thomas did not take it gently, and instead allegedly became angry.

Thomas, who is reported as homeless in the Clearwater area, was said to have been carrying a machete on the belt around his waist, and he allegedly reached for it in response to the woman’s refusal. While he held the large knife in his hand Thomas allegedly said, “I’ll cut you up.”

The woman reportedly believed that she was in danger, and as soon as she was able she decided to run away and notify the authorities.

The alleged victim spoke with the Clearwater police and gave them a rundown of what had reportedly transpired between herself and Thomas.

When officers located Thomas he was reported as becoming uncooperative, and he allegedly yelled at them and used obscene language.

After interacting with Thomas the police got the impression that the man had consumed a large amount of alcohol, and that he was inebriated during the alleged assault.

Thomas was taken into custody and booked into the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond. He is facing charges for suspicion of aggravated assault for the accusations against him.
