A man was arrested after allegedly kidnapping a child by using a cat to lure her out of her home in the middle of the night.
Around 11:00 pm on August 20, the parents of a 3-year-old girl turned in for the night while their upstairs neighbors were having a gathering.
When they woke up at approximately 5:30 am, the couple noticed that their front door was open and their daughter was not inside the home. They thought that the child may have gone upstairs after they fell asleep.
The authorities were notified, and the parents of the girl spoke with neighbors to find out if anyone saw anything suspicious.
It was reported that someone who was hanging out said they saw a youngster leaving in a vehicle with a man.
Officers with the Houston Police Department arrived at the apartment complex and spoke with the family’s neighbors to see if anyone had any information about the child’s whereabouts.
According to reports, someone obtained video of the man, later identified as 50-year-old Holman Hernandez, as he allegedly lured the girl to his car with a cat.
The police searched the area, and they found Hernandez’s car in the parking lot at a motel about a mile from the youngster’s home.
The authorities went to the room that they believed Hernandez was in with the child. They said he would not answer the door when they knocked, and the officers entered without permission since they believed a child was in immediate danger.
Hernandez was taken into custody for suspicion of aggravated kidnapping. He was booked into the Harris County Jail and is being held on a $1 million bond.
If he posts bond, Hernandez is prohibited from having contact with the alleged victim. He cannot possess a firearm or use drugs or alcohol, and Hernandez is limited to travel within Harris County.
