A New York man was taken into custody for allegedly possessing child porn, in addition to using his apartment as a meth lab.
Last September, the authorities went to the apartment of a man who was being evicted. They went to the residence to ensure the man left the premises.
They entered, but no one was in the apartment. The deputies reported that they came across an elaborate setup allegedly used for making methamphetamine, otherwise known as a “meth lab.” If the chemicals are mixed improperly, it could cause an explosion.
For the safety of the other residents, the whole building was evacuated while it was checked by a hazmat team.
They reportedly learned that the man was using methamphetamine, but the police were unable to discern whether he was making the substance by himself, or whether he might be selling it to others.
The police wanted to question the man, but he retained an attorney before they were able. He declined to speak to them about the accusations.
When his apartment was raided, the authorities confiscated the man’s electronic devices. When they were searched, the police said they found child pornography stored on the machines.
On February 24, officers with the police department, the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit, and Schenectady County Street Crimes Task Force showed up together.
The man was placed under arrest, and he is facing preliminary charges of three felony counts of sexual performance by a child, felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of precursors of methamphetamine, felony unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, misdemeanor criminal possession of methamphetamine manufacturing material, misdemeanor criminal drug paraphernalia use, and misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.
