A Florida mayor recently found herself in a troubling situation that led to her arrest when she allegedly crashed into a mailbox in front of the residence of a couple she reportedly followed home while driving under the influence.
Just before 10:00 PM on August 28, a married couple noticed they were being followed home by a woman driving a silver car. Things took a turn for the worse when the woman, who was allegedly intoxicated, crashed into their mailbox and remained parked on their lawn. They decided to immediately notify the authorities but they were unsure of the driver’s identity when they first placed the call.
When they spoke to her, the woman reportedly identified herself as the mayor of the nearby city of Naples. The 911 dispatcher was surprised to hear it when the couple relayed this information. When the police arrived at the scene, the mayor was leaning on her car, and she had a calm demeanor. When they asked if she had been drinking alcohol, she reportedly said she had one glass of wine. The police believed she was displaying signs of being intoxicated. The police asked the woman what happened, and she reportedly told them the couple cut her off while they were driving, so she trailed behind them until they reached their destination.
