Texas authorities are investigating a man’s citizenship status after a woman allegedly posed as a police officer and reportedly held him at gunpoint because she believed he was an illegal immigrant.

On the evening of August 22, a man was parked close to a home in Kirbyville on a county road. When a woman inside the residence spotted the vehicle, she went outside to see what was up. She reportedly believed the man was on her property, and the woman went up to the car to talk to him. When she first interacted with the man, she allegedly identified herself as a police officer and asked him for his name. She also reportedly asked for his insurance card and the keys to his vehicle. Additionally, the woman, who allegedly believed the man was an illegal immigrant, had him give her his cell phone and used it to call his wife.

According to reports, in an attempt to keep him from fleeing, the woman put her German Shepherd, which she said was a K9 with the sheriff’s department, in his vehicle and said he would be attacked if he tried. Shortly after, sheriff’s deputies arrived and began investigating the woman’s claims, but they were unable to confirm that the man had been on her property. It was determined that she had held the man against his will. The woman was taken into custody. She is facing a preliminary charge of terroristic threat causing fear of serious bodily injury. A charge for impersonating a law enforcement officer may be added.
