A Tennessee man was arrested after authorities said a woman trying to end their relationship was attacked inside her car by him and suffered a serious bite wound to her face.
The woman was with her 9-year-old son and the defendant in a Hyundai Elantra when the confrontation began, according to an affidavit. The incident reportedly started after the woman’s phone rang and the man became upset when she did not answer his question.
Authorities said the man then told the child to go inside the house so he could speak privately with the woman. After the boy left the vehicle, the man allegedly locked the doors and attacked her.
According to the affidavit, he placed both hands around the woman’s neck and pulled and twisted it while trying to move her into the back seat. She attempted to attract attention by kicking the horn and fought back by biting his finger, but authorities said he continued choking her.
During the struggle, the man allegedly bit the woman’s left cheek hard enough to remove tissue and leave a hole in her face.
Her efforts to escape eventually brought help. Her son returned to the vehicle and opened the passenger-side door while trying to help his mother get out. The woman screamed, and several members of the man’s family reportedly arrived and separated the two.
After the alleged attack was stopped, authorities said the man drove away in the woman’s car. Police found the woman with bruising and abrasions around her neck and chest, along with a bite injury on her left cheek.
The woman identified the man as her attacker, and he was arrested and booked into jail. He faced charges of attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping, theft of property, and domestic assault causing bodily harm. His bond was set at $100,000.
